Memory and Multiplication
An Introduction to the Multipication Table
Multiplication tables are a stumbling block. Whether you are a good, intermediate, or poor learner, many require tutoring. A tutor, no matter at what level of understanding, or age of student, arithmetic remains a difficult subject to master. Most learn the times tables by memory. It becomes a routine, fixed, habitual, and time consuming procedure.
Most curriculums insist on learning twelve times tables when only five will do. Now, learn how the Power of Five can improve your memory.
First Level: Learning to Add
1+0=1 1+1=2 1+2=3 1+3=4 1+4=5 1+5=6
2+0=2 2+1=3 2+2=4 2+3=5 2+4=6 2+5=7
3+0=3 3+1=4 3+2=5 3+3=6 3+4=7 3+5=8
4+0=4 4+1=5 4+2=6 4+3=7 4+4=8 4+5=9
5+0=5 5+1=6 5+2=7 5+3=8 5+4=9 5+5=10
Second Level: Learning to Multiply
1*0=0 1*1=1 1*2=2 1*3=3 1*4=4 1*5=5
2*0=0 2*1=2 2*2=4 2*3=6 2*4=8 2*5=10
3*0=0 3*1=3 3*2=6 3*3=9 3*4=12 3*5=15
4*0=0 4*1=4 4*2=8 4*3=12 4*4=16 4*5=20
Third Level: De-Compose the Multiplicand
Since multiplication is repeated addition, we can go from what we know to what we do not know. Mentally De-Compose.
5*6=5*5+5*1=30 5*7=5*5+5*2=35
5*8=5*5+5*3=40 5*9=5*5+5*4=45
Forth Level: Mixed De-Composition
Mentally de-compose the multiplier or the Multiplicand
6*6=5*6+1*6=36 7*7=7*5+7*2=49
8*8=5*8+3*8=64 9*9=9*5+9*4=81
